Thanks Lisa. Obama is so arrogant that I doubt he, or anyone on his staff ever read it. They probably saw that the letter came from someone in Texas, so it likely ended up in the trash can. What a shame. He could use some education on the Constitution.

The U.S. is the only nation that has ever used nuclear weapons to attack another nation. That being said, we are probably the least likely agressor to use them again in the future. We must maintain a strategic arsenal, and we must keep our enemies totally uninformed about how many we have, and where they are. Israel has avoided destruction because the neighboring countries are well aware that Israel has nuclear weapons. We have several ballistic missile submarines that are each capable of launching more firepower than has ever been used in the history of warefare. Those subs helped keep the Soviet Uniot at bay, but they won't keep terrorists at bay. Therefore, the U.S. must take direct measures to keep nuclear weapons out of the hands of countries like Iran, and North Korea. If that means launching attacks on those countries, so be it. I vastly prefer laying waste to rogue nations to dying of radiation sickness or in a nuclear blast. The U.S. is the only nation in the world with the capability of dealing with nuclear proliferation. Therefore, it is our duty to do so, even if it angers other nations.

If opponents of nevelopidg new warheads are saying that the existing stockpile can be maintained indefinitely, that's not correct. Plutonium is radioactive, and it deteriorates. Eventually the warheads won't go boom anymore. As far as I can tell, the U.S. stopped producing new nukes after the Cold War. It stands to reason that unless we keep building new warheads, eventually we won't have any.Personally, that's fine by me. But if we want to not have nuclear weapons, we should say so. We shouldn't be going around with a bunch of duds. Otherwise some president is going to think and act like he has world destroying power under his sleeve, and as soon as other countries realize that our nuclear arsenal actually won't work they will test us to the limit. The worst possible position to be in pointing what you think is a loaded gun at someone, when that person knows that it is really empty.
